Suggest Medication For Tear In Achilles Tendon

Dr.
My mother had a spur on her left heel which was treated by an orthopaedic doctor with a steroid injection.

After that she had a fall and a tear in her Achilles tendon was diagnosed about two or three months later. After a couple of consultations with several doctors she was scheduled for surgery on the 29th of February 2010. After the surgery her leg was in a cast (upto mid thigh). The cast was changed after a month to one that was up to the knee. After removal of this cast she developed a subcutaneous infection in her right leg for which she was hospitalised again. Intravenous antibiotics were started off. During this time a clear discharge began to come out from the incision, which had healed completely. The fluid was sent to a lab for testing and the results for microbial growth came back negative.

The doctor suggested that it could be an allergic reaction to the sutures and therefore a second surgery was done to replace the sutures. About two weeks after the surgery her leg was put into a cast again for a month. After the cast came off we realized that there was about a 1 inch opening in the incision from which there was fluid discharge. About a day later there was some white mass also which became visible. The doctor informed us that it was dead tissue and he began to excise the dead tissue on a weekly basis. Now the base of the one inch incision has started showing some redness and according to the doctor the wound has begun healing.

All along she was never diabetic, but last weeks her sugar level has been slightly elevated. A diabetologist consultation has added on some mild medication to control her sugar levels.

Am very confused about what is happening because another doctor recommended that we go in for a surgery again and that the entire tendon would need to be removed now. Please advise on what needs to be done.
