The tooth at the back of my upper mouth (right at the back) is broken and has been for about a year. When air gets to it I have lots of pain. Will the dentist be able to remove this as half the tooth is already gone
Decay in the tooth is causing the pain when air touches the tooth (usually referred to as pulpitis).
I would advice you to take ibuprofen for pain ( if you are not allergic to any medicine). Visit your local dentist and have it evaluated by a radiograph. If it is possible to save the tooth ,then get the root canal treatment done, otherwise you can go for the extraction of the tooth.
Visit the dentist before the pain become too intense, and you don't have to fear the dentist .
Read your query, as you have pain in decayed (broken) tooth dont worry dont be scared of consulting dentist there will be no pain in removal of tooth as all painful procedure is to be done under Anaesthesia , So you will not going to experience any pain during removal or during under treatment . For pain you can take analgesic like Paracetamol tablet or Diclomol SP if you are not allergic to these drug , Do warm saline rinses , consult dentist and go for its treatment .
Hope this will help you. Wishing you good health.
