Suggest Medication To Control The Anxiety Before Undergoing Laparoscopy
Hi there, I m having a laparoscopy tomorrow and I m very anxious. To the point I don t know if I can bare to go in, I ve never been diagnosed with anxiety but I know for sure I have it. Is there anything they can give me before and/or after the surgery to help me keep calm? I will also freak out over any pain associated with my surgery afterward and that can induce a panic attack.. Also, does THC affect anaesthetic? Thank you!
As per my clinical experience, the anxiety before major surgery and even before minor surgery is very common in majority of the surgical patients. There are various techniques to cope up with the anxiety as: - Meditations - Counselling with surgeon and anesthetic - Short acting benzodiazepines as lorazepam - Short acting sleeping pill as melatonin All of the above measures will give best results whatever is being considered, and there will be no effect over the induction or recovery part of anesthesia.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
