Suggest Medicine For Upper Abdominal Pain, Nausea And Diarrhea

I have been having upper abdominal pain, nausea/vomiting/diarrhea for a week and half now. I can drink sips of basic clear fluids but cannot eat without severe nausea/vomiting. I had been in contact with people having viral gastroenteritis, but am basically wondering how long I let this go before I assume that it might be more than the GI bug?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The most possible issue with upper abdomen pain, nausea and diarrhea indicate underlying intestine infection through some sort of bacteria or virus. Primary guidelines of care would be:
- Drinking boiled water, lemon juice, coconut water, butter milk
- Anti-emetic as ondancetron or metoclopramide with proton pump inhibitor as omeprazole with sips of water on empty stomach
- Prefer bland, vegan diet
- Avoid all spices, non-veg, junk food, dairy fat
- Pre and pro biotics with lacto bacillus content

Should discuss the need of antibiotics as metronidazole with rifaximin or else with your doc.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
