Hello,

Thank you for your question and welcome to Healthcare Magic. I understand your concerns.

Normally, with such cholesterol level it is indicated starting a drug therapy, of which statine family is the first line of choice, as your doctor already did.
Regarding Mega Red, it is a good supplement of Omega 3 and phospholipids, which could help you with lowering cholesterol levels. Beside Mega red, there are a lot of other natural remedies such as artichoke extract, green tea extract, barley, garlic extract etc. I would like to advice you to start a soluble fiber diet, which is a type of dietary fiber found in oats, barley, bran, peas, and citrus fruits, as well as in dietary supplements.
Regarding your weight issue, it is not necessarily related to cholesterol level. There are a lot of very skinny people with high cholesterol level and the opposite overweight people with normal cholesterol level.
My advice is to check thyroid hormone level, because often people with overweight problem have often had low thyroid hormone, which could lead also to high cholesterol level. I would recommend toy to check your TSH hormone. The most common traditional way to diagnose hypothyroidism is with a TSH that is elevated beyond the normal reference range, in order to compensate and stimulate thyroid hormone formation.

Hope I helped with my answer. For further requests or follow up questions, feel free to ask again. I will be pleased to answer you.

Take Care,
Dr. Ina
