My father was diagnosed with stage 4 lung caner in late April. He had 4 cancer nodules (?) two in each lung. The oncologist said that at his age and at the advacement of his cancer he would only live another 3-6 months. He is still going, but the last two days he has had diarrhea with a LOT of bloody discharge. He is on both the pill form and the liquid form of morphine now and he is still eating but I am thinking that this may be a sign that the end is getting closer. What should we expect in terms of time now and what is to come in terms of additional symptoms?
Hi Since your father is suffering from stage 4 lung cancer basic aim of treatment should only be basic supportive care as he has only around 3 to 6 months of time to live. For his diarrhea u can use Loperamide tablets 4 mg stat the 2 mg 2 hrly till his motion is controlled. For blood discharge in his stool i would recommend he takres tab pause 500 mg twice daily for 3 days. He may have acute shortness of breath in future so oxygen cylinder needs to be arranged in home so that it can be given by mask Regards DR De
