Suggest Procedure To Remove Thick White Skin Present Underneath The Toe

I have some type of white thicker nail or skin underneath my toe, creating an strange appearance. It doesn t hurt until I try to dig it out or cut some of it out with the nail itself. I have tried treating it as Athletes foot with minor success. Any ideas of how to proceed?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Based on your description, it sounds as though you may have a fungal infection of the nail.

This requires treatment with an oral anti fungal. Fungal infections of the nail do not respond to topical treatment only.
Eg of oral anti fungals are fluconazole, itraconazole, terbinafine

Treatment is required for 6 weeks to three months.

A prescription would be required from your doctor for one of these.
