Suggest Remedies For Bruises And Swelling In Ankle And Foot Post Shin Injury

I was hit in the shin by a line drive on 2nd base. My shin swelled immediately to about the size of an orange. It stung as swelling went down. It did not bruise right away. A few days later my ankle swelled and bruised. Now both sides of my foot are bruised. My shin is also bruised now and very sore to touch. Should I see a doctor. Could anything be broken? It was a pretty hard hit.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I recommend to do an X-ray of the ankle to exclude the possibility of a fracture. Meanwhile, I suggest using anti-inflammatory medications such as Acetaminophen to relieve the inflammation. I also suggest using cold compresses for local application to relieve the swelling.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
