Suggest Remedies For Burning Pain In Foot And Toes

I am having intense foot pain caused by standing barefoot on a hard surface. It is a burning or stabbing like pain in my toes and just behind my toes. Just one foot. 2nd time this has happened. It gets better with rest. I cannot put my full weight on it without pain.

This sounds a lot like peripheral neuropathy which is a disorder of the peripheral nervous system that affects any combination of motor, sensory, or autonomic nerves. Peripheral neuropathy can be acquired or genetic. The most common cause of acquired is diabetes, but it can also be caused by vascular ischemia or vasculitis, infectious, trauma (standing barefoot for long periods of time especially on hot or cold surfaces), autoimmune disease (like rheumatoid arthritis), metabolic (diabetes, renal failure, thyroid disorders, vitamin B12 deficiency), etc. Local compression of a nerve can also give you these symptoms of neuropathy. Standing can cause localized edema which can compress nerves. There are current over 70 known causes of neuropathy. You should see your primary care doctor to rule out any reservable causes of neuropathy. They will need standard blood work. If the blood work is unrevealing, they can get a skin biopsy or a nerve conduction study. In the mean time, they can also prescribe you gabapentin or similar medication for neuropathy.
