I have suffered from dry mouth caused by medication. Ihad a really bad case last week but I was able to reduce the dryness. however I have been left with an sore tongue and have been unable to heal it. I have used various mouthwashes (biotene) and cough drops and sprays but to no avail. what can I do next?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have medication related dry mouth i.e Xerostomia. Consult your doctor, so that he/she can take complete history and check other symptoms to find what exactly causing dry mouth. Doctor may prescribe alternative medication course. Need not to worry. Apply numbing gel on tongue and you can use lignocaine patches if pain is there. You should take plenty of fluids and avoid fried food. You should use saliva substitute as t will enhance secretions of saliva and try to breath from nose instead of mouth. you should chew sugar free gum.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
