Suggest Remedies For Painful Neck And Allodynia In Heels Post Spinal Cord Surgery

Hello, I have severe nerve pain and allodynia (legs- bottom) following surgery (L1) for a AV Dural Fistula on my spinal cord. The operation was in October 2014 and I have had little comfort since. I have tried many of the medications like Lyrica etc and the side effects have been dreadful. Because most of my nerve damage is from CNS and not peripheral, there doesn t seem to be anything more that can be down (Australia). I have noticed recently that my leg/foot pain is worse if I expose my skin to air, heat, cold, rough fabrics, touch etc and my foot, different types ie leather vs plastic. I would really appreciate any suggestions on how to move forward and regain my quality of life. I have a loving patient husband but it s not fair on him that I have to continually bow out of activities. The least pain I feel is when lying still on the couch or sleeping. I have tried large doses of Vit B and I take other herbal medications with no results. The only medical script I am on is Endep and I take 125 mg daily. Please can you offer me any suggestions. Cheers and thanks Marilyn Holloway.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The intense pain in heels post spinal cord surgery indicates possible nerve compression at L 4 or L 5 level most likely. I would request you to discuss the need of an MRI lower spine region to fix the issue with proper diagnosis and management algorithm accordingly.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
