My wisdom tooth is giving me pain on and off, however based on my panoramic xray it is in an upright position and I can see it is already coming out. Do I need to have this removed? And also I am planning to have dental braces, I am confused which wa
As per your query you have recurring pain in wisdom tooth . The pain which you mention in query is actually sensitivity to temperature . The pain can also occur due to infection in tooth . This infection spread underneath and cause problem I would suggest you to visit dentist again.Doctor may order X-ray and will do physical examination of the tooth . He/she may consider filling with lines in place or prescribe antibiotics course, if the infection is more then he may extract the tooth . Generally its not recommended to do filling or root canal of wisdom tooth , if they become problematic get them extracted . Until then avoid food with extreme temperature and do warm saline rinses 3-4 times a day. Take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain.
As per your complain in case if you have wisdom tooth erupting upright and still there is on and off pain then it is probably due to inflammation of gum flap surrounding the wisdom tooth leading to a condition known as Pericoronitis..
It occurs due to infection caused by food accumulation between gum flap and the wisdom tooth..
You should consult an Oral Surgeon and get evaluated and in case of inflamed gum flap you can be advised either removing the gum flap and if the pain still recurs extraction of wisdom tooth is advisable..
As of now you can take a higher painkiller like Tramadol for pain relief.. Do warm saline gargles and gargle with antimicrobial mouthwash like Chlorohexidine mouth wash. Do cold compresses over the cheek on the painful side..
Hope this helps..
Regards.
