Suggest Remedies For Severe Constipation Due To Intake Of Multiple Medications
I am 77 female who had knee replacement 4 weeks ago today. I am now severely constipated from pain medication. Went to urgent care yesterday and they prescribed magnesium Caltrate which I took 10 oz yesterday but no relief. I am not sleeping or eating but drinking lots of fluids. Should I try a suppository
Medications sometimes cause constipation. Drink plenty of water & take food rich in fiber. Take fruits like apples, pears, prunes, papayas to help relieve constipation. You can take antacids to feel better.
You can take a stool softener like decusate (colace), laxatives (dulcolax) or enemas in severe constipation. Report to your treating doctor & get relieved at the earliest.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Nupur K, General & Family Physician
