Suggest Remedies For Urinary Retention When Diagnosed With Prostate Cancer

My husband is 74 and is fairly healthy. Except, he has early stage prostate cancer and has recently developed urinary retention problems, which he addresses with self cath. He saw a urologist this morning for discomfort, diagnosis bladder infection. Two doses of Cipro so far, but fever of 101.6. Pulse is about 86/min, usually 72. Just took an Aleve. Wait and see, or go to the ER?

Thanks for your query ,based on the facts and report of her urine tests and blood test that you have posted it appears that your mother has uncontrolled Diabetes with difficulty in passing urine especially at night due to UTI.

In majority of females this is mainly due to what is called as senile urethral stenosis (Post Menopausal Urethral stenosis) .

During postmenopausal age group there is generalized atrophy of genital organs that includes urethra too .This narrowed urethral passage leads to incomplete emptying of bladder causing significant urine to remain in bladder what is called as Post Void Residual (PVR) urine .This residual urine is a source of infection causing these symptoms of recurrent UTI .

Please consult qualified Urologist for clinical examination and get following basic tests done to confirm the diagnosis.
1) Urine routine and culture.
2) Ultrasound scanning of abdomen and pelvis
3) Endoscopic examination of bladder (Cystoscopy)

In the mean while give her broad spectrum antibiotics like Cefixime along with urinary antiseptic like Nitrofurantoin twice daily and urine alkalizer thrice daily .Later on switch on to appropriate antibiotics as per culture report.

Get the prescription of medicines from your family Physician.

Ensure she drinks more water .To keep your urine dilute This will help to control dysuria.
