I have Graves disease. My thyroid levels are under control and I take atenolol. The last few days I have been experiencing heaviness, little sharp pains in my chest, breathlessness and a unwell feeling in my bowels. I don t know if it s from drinking caffeine or a reaction to my atenolol. I take my pulse daily and after medication it goes done to 48-50 beats. Without atenolol it s 70-80.
Hi Thank you for contacting healthcare magic. I would advice you to have an ECG as thyroid hormones have effect on heart tissue & for serum TSH levels to see if its normal or not. Even if thyroid levels are normal, go for ECG once to rule out any cardiac problem. Atenolol doesn't cause such problem.
