Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? My husband has a branch renal arterial occlusion cause by an embolus. The concern now is that because it was caused by a bit of plaque breaking off in an artery elsewhere, that he could have a stroke if more breaks off and lodges in his brain. I am confident that he can lower his cholesterol (total 235 and LDL 148 checkup last month). My concern is what can be done to reduce the arterial plaque already there without resorting to statins?

Suggest Remedy For Arterial Plaque
I have gone through your question. reduction of plaque burden without statin therapy essentially includes dietary modifications and exercise . Statin therapy not only reduces the plaque burden but also stabilizes them so that they don t rupture or embolise distally ( plaque breaking off in an artery elsewhere ). At least low dose statins must be considered ( as there is a history of plaque embolising distally). Hope to have been helpful! Wishing good health, Dr D Sunil Reddy
