I received several fire ant bites about 2 weeks ago on my feet and legs (probably less than 10 bites in all), and came down with what I though was a simple cold a week ago. The cold has now developed into a hacking, dry cough that is unrelenting. Not sure if it is dry because I have been primarily using suppressants. Started Mucinex today, then started reading about serum sickness. If this is what I have, is it treated differently than the common cold?
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic. I can understand your concern. No need to worry for serum sickness. It also starts with cough and cold. But it is not that common. By your history and description, possibility of viral URTI (upper respiratory tract infection) is more. So better to avoid oily and spicy food. Avoid junk food. Drink plenty of fluids orally. Start antihistamines and anti inflammatory drugs. Do warm water gargles 5-6 times a day. If you are not improving in 2-3 weeks than consult doctor and get done investigations for serum sickness. Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
