My granddaughter who just turned 8 years old went to her primary doctor with an ear infection. They somehow ruptured her ear drum. It started bleeding, so her mother took her back to the hospital and while she was there, she had a seizure. A couple days later, she had another seizure. She has never had seizures in her life. Can a ruptured ear drum cause seizures?
Hello, Complications of ear infections are rare after the discovery of antibiotics. The infection in ears can spread to covering of brain causing meningitis,(infection of brain tissue)encephalitis, formation of abscess in brain which can cause seizures.Such cases are diagnosed by history, lumbar puncture and CT scan of brain.Intravenous antibiotics and anti seizure medications are initially started, the management of ear in such cases takes a second step.
