Suggest Remedy For Extreme Sweating When On Clozapine
I have a customer taking clozapine 25mg and has been experiencing sweating and temperature changes .....let me step back and review that she started taking 1.5 bid, then 1 bid, then 0.5 bid and the seating and bed time tremors started.....is this normal
The side effect that your customer is experiencing is called Hyperhidrosis. In one clinical study, they have found that Clozapine resulted in these side effects in 6% of patients taking it. Ideally, it is advisable to switch to other medications when experiencing side effects. Still, if she is given Clozapine for treatment-resistant schizophrenia or any other condition for which no alternative medication is available, she could be given Biperiden, which will help reduce hyperhidrosis.
Temperature changes could be a serious side effect. Clozapine also requires routine blood work to screen for side effects on your bone marrow. I would recommend contacting your customer's physician and discuss this issue with him as he will be in the best position to help you.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Saralkumar R. Desai, General & Family Physician
