Suggest Remedy For Extremely Low TSH Levels

My 34 yr old son has been loosing significant weight, having a hard time swallowing his food and has been suffering migraines. He just found a Dr and had blood work done. His TSH results were 0.01. He is supposed to have an ultrasound tomorrow. I am EXTREMELY concerned! Should he ask for a referral to an endocrinologist? Sandra

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and thank you for your question.
He has hyperthyroidism. Symptoms from this include weight loss. There are several ways to treat this. It is really up to him whether or not he wants to see an endocrinologist. Many primary care doctors treat hyperthyroidism but if he wants to see a specialist then that would be a good option as well. Once he gets on treatment he should be feeling better soon.
Regards,
Dr. Robinson
