Hi,

Brief answer: Nebicard 5 mg is different than Nebicard sm. The recommended target blood pressure for adults age

Detailed answer: Nebicard 5 mg tablet is a different medication than Nebicard sm tablet. Nebicard sm is a combination medicine containing two blood pressure lowering medications: nebivolol and amlodipine. Nebicard 5 mg contains only nebivolol. After switching medications, your blood pressure, readings have become quite elevated. These readings are in the range of Stage 2/Grade 2 hypertension (ie, blood pressure > 160/100 mmHg). In general, for adult patients with hypertension your age (age

It is common for patients blood pressure to increase with medication dose decreases or with discontinuing of medication. With your switch to Nebicard 5 mg from Nebicard sm, your doctor has actually discontinued the amlodipine medication component of your blood pressure lowering medication regimen. This may explain your elevation in blood pressures since the switch to Nebicard.

In addition to medications, I recommend patients with hypertension to live a healthy lifestyle, including getting regular physical activity, eating a well-balanced diet of fruits, vegetables and whole grains and limiting intake of salt, drinking alcohol only in moderation, and not smoking. Also patients should limit their use of over the counter pain medications like ibuprofen because they can interfere with the action of blood pressure lowering medications.

There are many options for blood pressure lowering medications. I suggest that you talk with your doctor about your elevated blood pressure readings. Your doctor will decide the best medications for treating your blood pressure.

Hope this helps answer your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care.
