Hi, I wonder if you can help. I get a lot of gas and burp a lot. I have for the last couple of days been suffering really badly with a pain in my left side below my ribs and continuous burping. It hurts like a tooth ache around my left ribs. I also have a hiatus hernia which i ve had for 15 years. I am 19 stone and drink a bit (12 pints a week).

Diabetologist 's  Response
Hi

I think you are suffering from a serious case of gastritis and gastroesophageal reflux disease.

The best option I can suggest is to go on a regular course of proton pump inhibitors. Something like rabeprazole? A twice a day dose, preferably before meals (1/2 hour prior to breakfast and dinner to be precise) may help you a lot.

In addition you can always try an antacid syrup of sucralfate.

best of luck
