Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I recently had a EKG prior to a planned total knee replacement. The EKC came back and showed a marked sinus bradycardia. My BPM was 41. For the past 10-12 years my heartrate has always been between 40-60. I am now 64 years old, do water aerobics 3 times a week, have never smoked and have never had a previous abnormal EKG. I was very active in a lot of sports when I was young and played pickup basketball games until the age of 50. I do take meds for peripheral neuropathy, arthritis, fibro and sinus issues. I also do feel fatigued at times.
Is this a serious condition that warrants postponing my knee replacements or what?
I understand your concern regarding your knee replacement surgery and I want to tell you that those people who are involved in sports activities and are physically fit like athletes They do have their heart rate on the lower side. That's actually a sign of healthy heart. No Ma'am It's your normal physiology and it will not postpone your surgery although your surgeon might take a cardiologist opinion to declare you fit for surgery.
I wish you good health
