Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Husband woke up in middle of night- lower back pain and upper thigh , behind knee pain- it is a dull pain but severe enough to ask for drugs- he NEVER ask for painkillers. When he bends over and stretches-the pain is more behind the knees but is coming from back
The cause of the low back pain is not apparent from the details that you have provided and he needs to be examined and investigated. The age of your husband the duration of onset of the pain is important and you have not mentioned that either. If it is acute, it could have been caused due to some electrolyte imbalance (due to low potassium) where taking juicy fruits like citrus fruits is likely to help. It could also be due to lumbar spondylosis or slipped disc As of now, some muscle relaxant, analgesic and hot compress should be helpful. Please visit a doctor and get it examined and treated.
