Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
about a month ago I noticed a bunch of dark purple/red spots on the front of my left shin. They were in an area about 3 or so inches wide and from top to bottom. They have disappeared now but I now have a few on my right shin. I have noticed that there are many purple veins showing on my shins and more red capillaries on my face. I have fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis. My rheumy just ordered some blood tests to check for inflammation. I also have sjogren's symptoms and we are testing for that as well. Is there any thing else I should be aware of or check out?
When such patients come to our hospital I advise them blood test like ACCP, ESR, HLA B27.
I will advise to check further for autoimmune disease like ANA. Leg eruption can be due to autoimmune disease.
It may be seronegative spondylo arthropathy. NSAIDs, DMARDs (disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs) are sometimes prescribed in more severe cases. These include methotrexate and sulfasalazine.Corticosteroid injections for severe pain and inflammation in a specific joint.TNF-a inhibitors, a newer class of biologic medication.
Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.
Wishing you good health.
Take care.
