Suggest Remedy For Pain After Having A Tooth Cavity Filled

I had a cavity filled on my left lower molar a week ago and have been having pain when eating, flossing between that tooth, pressure of any kind, or heat/cold. I went in today to get my bite adjusted and it was extremely painful. I was prescribed Decadron to reduce the inflammation but am getting no relief. It does not hurt when I bite down without food in my mouth. Is it likely the nerve is damaged and I will need a root canal? Or is there a chance this will subside over the next few weeks. I really can't afford a root canal.

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain there is some sensitivity experienced by the patient after a filling and it usually subsides is a period of 4 to 5 days or even lesser in some patients..

In case you have severe pain after a filling it is clear that there is inflammation of nerve as the filling which is done irritates the nerve once the nerves are open during making of the cavity in tooth to retain the filling..

Once the nerve is inflamed you will experience severe pain and can also lead to swelling due to pus formation.

I would suggest you to consult an endodontist and get and IOPAR (x ray) done to get evaluated for the exact status of your filled tooth and in case of nerve exposure you will have to get ROOT CANAL TREATMENT done as alone the pain medicines and antibiotics cannot relieve you till the inflamed nerve and blood vessels are cut off from the tooth and tooth is filled after cleaning and shaping of the tooth as well as root canals.

Hope your query is solved..
