Suggest Remedy For Pain And Swelling In The Tragus Area Despite Using Antibiotics.

I am suffering from a very painful and swollen right ear in the area of the Tragus. It is so swollen that it has severely decreased my hearing. I have been on 3 different anti-biotics. Also have occasionally shooting pain in the ear and surrounding facial area.

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of pain and swelling in the tragus area despite using antibiotics is because of that fact that tragus is mainly made of cartilageous tissue which is innervated by a branch of trigeminal nerve which extends up the side of head. Any inflammation in this area or pressure points to the tragus can cause referred pain because of the anatomical connection and it started putting pressure on adjacent areas and start giving symptoms . Inflammation in this area occur due to infection. Most likely Inflammation of soft tissue involving tragus, external ear infection there is a pain on pressing to pulling of the pinna of the ear and tragus. I would suggest you to visit ENT specialist once as it could affect your hearing as well. Pain which persists more than 5-7 days in the same area should be evaluated doctor. Doctor may also refer you to neurologist for nerve problem .
