Suggest Remedy For Pain On Jaws After Molar Extraction

Hi. I had a molar extraction on Tuesday. I have had lots of jaw pain in my left side and unable to open mouth wide and wonder if dislocated? Also experiencing weird, and quite distressing, dizzy spells and wondered what might be causing this? The nausea is scaring me as if I do vomit will I be able to open my mouth and not choke? Thanks for your help.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

As per your query pain on jaws after molar extraction is because of excessive pressure and instrumentation. If you unable to open mouth it seems some nerve has been compressed or there is injury to some muscles of mastication. The condition is known as ' TRISMUS '

I would suggest you to :-

- Give warm compresses to the facial muscles specially on the affected side .

- Start physical therapy of of the facial muscles .

- Take the help of mouth gags to open mouth .

- Take ibuprofen(if not allergic ) or paracetamol for pain.

Visit oral surgeon immediately and get it examined properly. Symptoms you are experiencing seems to be a allergic reaction due to anesthesia .along with trismus . The allergic symptoms will go away in 2-3 days as it flush out of the blood .

Doctor may prescribe muscle relaxant ( orthodox MR) ,or anti allergic dug like zyrtec.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
