Suggest Remedy For Persistent Bruise Post Injury

my husband recently slipped in the baseball field,(like a split Sat.) It bothered him a little. Tuesday he went an played basketball, and slipped again the same way he did earlier. It started to bruise a little and was swollen. Now it is Thursday and still swollen and the bruising is worst. He has been doing the RICE. Should he go to the doctor to have it checked out, or is it just a really bad strain.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
Thank you for asking HCM.
I have gone through your query. Persistent bruise is most likely due to hematoma formation. For this you can apply ice packs. It should be applied for 15 to 20 minutes off and on. It should be repeated 3 to 4 times daily also. If there is increased pain or cracking or discomfort then better to approach an orthopedician to rule out any fracture or serious ligament injury. In such case immobilization with bandages or braces will be needed.
Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
