Suggest Remedy For Persistent Coughing After Lobectomy
54 year old female, had lobectomy (upper left lobe) in 2010. Since then, persistent coughing. Some days, from time wake up to bed time. Expectorating clear mucus. Average 2 ct-scans/year. Possible scar tissue in the lung due to the surgery. Situation is unsustainable. Was seen by 6 pulmonologists over past 5 years, 1 bronchoscopy. Pulmonologists are useless since don t provide any solution/relief. What to do?
Persistent coughing with clear mucus after upper left lobectomy, multiple CT scans, consulted 6 pulmonologist but not helping indicates that the commonest cause can be irrational cough. Bronchoscopy seems to be normal. CT scan already done hence no obvious reasons found. Granular pharyngitis can also cause persistent cough. Dryness of mouth and pharynx called pharyngitis sicca, xerostomia enhanced by continuous use of anti-tussive, antihistamine can cause persistent coughing.
Laryngitis or any other changes in this area should also be considered. Repeat endoscopy for pharynx and larynx, preferably by an ENT Surgeon may help to get a proper diagnosis. Take Multivitamins, therapeutic doses of Vitamin A and D that is so important in maintaining the integrity of mucus membranes and help control coughing. Stress and anxiety can add-on. Hence control is important.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
