Suggest Remedy For Persistent Stomach Pain When Recovering From Infection

had the stomach & upper respiratory virus for 3 weeks in April. Doc would not RX anti-biotic. Rx d Phengren but only vomited once + did have diarrhea. They said it has to run its course but 6 weeks later is not normal. Taking probiotic & eat greek yogurt every day w/bland diet. Still have pins/needles stomach pain. Eating lightly but food makes me belch. Went to Doc today, no solution but pointed out I am overdue for my cholesterol check & colonoscopy, still no anti-biotic. very healthy prior to this, no ulcers, normal bowels, stomach etc. Seems like the bad bug is still in there. I guess my next move is on to Gastroenterologist? Any other ideas?

Hi,

Antibiotics are prescribed in bacterial infections only. It only cure infections that are caused by the bacteria. Based on the symptoms you are suffering, it looks like gastritis and duodenitis might be the cause for the abdominal pain and belching. Gastritis is the condition in which the stomach lining is inflamed following repeated assault due to acid injury and even prolonged fasting. Irregular diet habit and spicy diet are the other causes for gastritis.

Management involves proton pump inhibitors or H2 receptor blocker to decrease the gastric acid secretion and antacid to neutralize the excess acid in the stomach after digestive process. If the symptoms not improving, endoscopy helps identify the pathology of gastritis and also confirms the bacterial cause for gastritis. Depends on the findings, appropriate medication along with timely soft diet will be advised.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
