Suggest Remedy For Persisting Cough Even After Medication For Pneumonia
My husband is presenting with pneumonia and a terrible cough, producing yellow phlegm and or clear liquid water like substance. He has finished 10 days of antibiotics, currently 6 days post antibiotics. He still has cough, phlegm, and now has blurred vision in both eyes. He is otherwise a healthy 53 year old.
Thanks for your question on HCM. I can understand your situation and problem. Ideal treatment of pneumonia is to first isolate the organism an dthan start antibiotic according to the sensitivity pattern. So in your husband's case I advice you to consult pulmonologist and get done 1. Repeat chest x ray 2. Sputum culture and sensitivity 3. Bronchoscopy and BAL (Bronchoalveolar lavage) analysis. Since after 6 days of antibiotics, he is not improving, so we need chest x ray to determine whether pneumonia is worsened or not. Sputum culture is necessary to isolate the causative organism and sensitivity is needed to guide antibiotic therapy. So consult pulmonologist and discuss all these. Avoid haphazard use of antibiotics in pneumonia as it will cause drug resistance and delay the recovery.
