Suggest Remedy For Problem In Swallowing Saliva In 9 Month Old

Good day, my name is Gerhard Swanepoel and my grandchild was diagnosed with Krabbe Disease. In South Africa it seems that a verfew doctors are aware of the condition though we have Dr Lippert, an pediadric neurologist with a number of patients. My question is on salivation as she is now 9 months old and start with serious problems not be able to swallow the saliva that builds up in the throught. IS there a way to prevent the saliva from building up - we are in the process of bying a suction machine. Can one dry the mouth - if yes how and what would the freuquency be to so so? I am of the opinion that this built up of saliva causes nauseousness

Pediatrician, Pulmonology 's  Response
Hi,

The building up of saliva is due to the oropharyngeal incoordination. The best way for your child will be a gastrostomy feeding. The other way to decrease the secretions would be an anticholinergic patch drug.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
