Thanks. My daughter put toothpaste over her face and slept through the night, Woke up with red burns and tons of itching. this was 4 weeks ago. There are many small bumps on the face and the redness is a bit down, but the itching is bad and also the face feels hot. She has done polysporin, cetaphil, aloe lotion, reactine and mild steroid cream, but the steroid she says burnt and the cetaphil too. Last night, she was very down and cried through the night. Is there anything else we can do?
Hello, Welcome to healthcare magic. From your history and description, your daughter seems to have developed an irritant dermatitis to the toothpaste. The first line of management would be to apply a mild to mid- potent steroid like 1% hydrocortisone or mometosone twice a day. However, since she has tried a steroid and not found much relief even with cetaphil and aloe vera creams, it seems to me that she may require a short course of oral steroids. You may have to get it prescribed by your doctor. She could also take an antihistamine like Benadryl at bedtime to get symptomatic relief from itching. She could also apply a bland oil like coconut oil ( which also has some anti inflammatory properties) every 3 hours. Hope this helps you. Take care.
