my boyfriend has been in severe pain for the past 5+ weeks. We have had him at the hospital a couple of times, they say it is his sciatic nerve, they give him meds and send him home. The meds do not help at all. He has seen a therapist and we thought it would help but he is in as much pain as he was 5 weeks ago. Is there anything we can do to help relieve the pain? we have tried hot/cold pads, leg stretches and nothing helps. he is 58 and not overweight
Hi, does he have any weakness in the affected limb? You could get an MRI of the LS Spine done to see whether there is any nerve compression at that level if he has weakness. Usually, the treatment entails Physiotherapy to strengthen the spinal muscles and relaxant medications. If it is very severe, Steroid injections in the affected nerve can be tried. All the best. Take care, Dr Rishi, New Delhi, India.
