Suggest Remedy For Severe Headache

I have started getting headaches for the past several years. If I don't take a medicine in time, I vomit because of the pain. The triggers are when I don't have enough water.
Now I have a severe headache. I took a sari don when it started, but my head is still throbbing.
What to do? Thank you.

Hello Ritu:

You may be suffering from migraine. It is a pain in half of the head (sometimes both sides), throbbing, with nausea and or vomiting, light and sound intolerance, and it gets worse with movement. Every migraine patient is different, and has different triggers. Common triggers are fasting, heat, alcohol, cured meat, smoked fishes, aged cheeses, some odors like gasoline or cigarette smoke, sleep deprivation, and dehydration. You can try to avoid all of them, and write a migraine blog to identify your own triggers.

For the pain, medications as Ibuprofen, naproxen or acetaminophen, would be helpful. Triptans as zolmitriptan, eletriptan, almotriptan, are more specific medications for the acute attack. Also you may need prophylactic treatment with some drugs as topiramate, propranolol, amitryptiline, magnesium, riboflavin, melatonin, or candesartan.

I suggest doing some exercise, avoid heat or direct sunlight to the head, and stay well hydrated, also consulting with a neurologist for a complete assessment. Do not forget to take your medication with you everywhere.

I hope this helps, if you have any doubt before your appointment, please let me know.
