Suggest Remedy For Severe Pain When Diagnosed With Pancreatitis

My name is Kathleen Becker. I was diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis when I was 53 years old from pancreas divisum. I had 4 or 5 ERCPS from Dr. Venu in Burlington, Wi. and another 3 with Dr. Lehmaan in Indianapolis. I have continued to have severe pain over my pancreas with occasional vomiting which is increasing. Most pain is after I eat or even sip water, I have a pain doctor who implanted a pain pump with a concentration of 27,000/ml per 24 hours plus a bolus of 2500 an hour by bolus. I am also on oxycodone 30 md q 8 hours and 60 mg of Morphine every 6 hours. Also on Gabapentin 900 mg tid and Zofran q 4 hours. I also take Valium 10 mg tid prn. About 90% of the time I am in severe pain. I had a nerve block that lasted only 1 hour. My original surgery was done by Dr. Stuart Wilson at Froedert Hospital in Milwaukee who is now retired. He and my gastroenterologist recommended the Frey Procedure over the Whipple. I saw a surgeon named Kathleen Christensen a couple years after the surgery. She suggested a complicated procedure with 0% results. Do you have any suggestions?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, the conservative therapy for pain control is now out of concern as there is 90% of pain after taking pain pump and multiple associated therapies. The ultimate goal of management would be pancreatectomy with duodenal bypass after discussion of pros and cons of the procedure with the gastrosurgeon.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
