My 7-yr old presents with reddish tongue and sorish throat. He says yesterday when he was brushing his teeth his tongue felt sore and when he viewed there was a white "dot" near tongue tip. The presents now as abnormally red at the tip and his throat is a "little sore" enough that makes swallowing painful/uncomfortable. His appetite has been reduce however he uncomfortably manged to eat his favorite fries. No fever is present and otherwise he does not appear unwell.
The symptoms seem to be of early stage of viral infection with an aphthous ulcer over the tip of the tongue. Start with home remedies, give him plenty of warm water to drink (to reduce the inflammation) and fresh fruit juices to boost up his immunity. Also, you can give him OTC medicine such as ibuprofen syrup for pain. Local application of gycerine over the tongue and vitamin syrup for healing the ulcer. Watch for couple of days, if the symptoms do not improve, consider visiting a doctor.
