Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a rapid hiv test 3 months after unprotected sex it was negative then again at the 6 month period negative as well, but everytime I have a sore throat I get scared or any pain in my body its always in my head maybe because of the scare of having unprotected sex and the guilt of cheating on my boyfriend
You had unprotected sex and then tested for HIV and it came negative at 3 months and even after 6 months. Now you are having fear of HIV and even on sore throat you have feelings of anxiety. You are having guilt and are scared of having unprotected intercourse. The symptoms you are having are of health anxiety and anxiety of HIV infection is common. You have tested twice and these tests have sensitivity of about 99.9% so there is no risk that you will get HIV. There is no reason to fear. Consult a psychiatrist for anxiety if symptoms persist. Simple counselling by a psychologist can help you. Mild anxiety medicines like Fluoxetine, Paroxetine can help to decrease unwanted thoughts of health anxiety.
Thanks, hope this helps you
