Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
hello, over the weekend my 5 yr old daughter developed pink eye. I gave her drops that was given to her for it before. It cleared up by Tuesday morning. However she started with a headache and slight fever last night. Today she came home from school coughing and with a fever. Her throat is swollen and is really red. There are no white spots on her tonsils. Should I take her into the clinic or is it too soon being that she just started with these symptoms. She is complaining constantly of her throat hurting.
Sore throat is most commonly caused by viral infection which is treated with pain medication mainly (eg paracetamol or ibuprofen). Viral infection is the cause in 80% of cases , bacterial infection can also.
If the pain is very severe or the fever does not resolve after a few days then it may be bacterial and antibiotics may be needed. Using cool/cold foods would help.
There are also over the counter cough and cold medications that can help with her other symptoms.
Rest and fluids are also important.
I hope this helps
