hi doc,
my son who is 2.5 years old was diagnosed to have nutritional vitamin D deficiency with bowed legs. we have given him oral vit D 5,40,000 IU over a months time. he is presently on Shellcal syrup 5 ml daily. he has improved with this his reactive airway disease subsided with this and his gait has improved by 40%. i want to know whether his bowed legs will improve over time. and if it doesnt then what is the right age to correct it surgically
Your son is having nutritional rickets. Usually there is complete resolution of the deformity ( bowed legs) with the supplementation of vitamin D. Surgical procedure are required resistant cases. If the bowing of legs has improved then there are very less chances that your son will require surgery.
