Suggest Remedy To Cure Migraines

I'm 15 and I've been having migraines everyday since Saturday. I cant sit or stand without being light headed and I've missed 2 days of school this week. I really want to feel better but I also really want to know what is causing the pain. Its on the right, backside of my head and has been there for the past 3 days, non stop. My mom says it's probably a tension headache, but I can tell it is definitely worse than that. I'm confused a lot and dizzy all the time. I feel like I can't concentrate or focus on something for longer that 30 seconds. I hate missing so much school and I really want to know any ideas on what this could be or what could help. Tylenol and Aleve haven't helped one bit either. If anyone has any recommendations on what this could be or what I should do or medicines I could take to relieve the pain it would be greatly appreciated!

Neurologist 's  Response
Hello:

Migraine presents with pain in half of the head. Patients have nausea or vomiting, light and sound intolerance, it exacerbates with movement and some patients have vertigo or dizziness. It usually lasts 4 to 72 hours. If you are having these symptoms, maybe you are a migraine patient and by now you are having a complicated migraine, presented as status migrainosus. It is a migraine pain that lasts more than 72 hours.

Treatment can be done with some medications as dexametasone, magnesium, metoclopramide and ketorolac. You can also try triptans as zolmitriptan or sumatriptan.

I suggest consulting with a neurologist for a complete assessment and diagnosis confirmation.

By now you need to follow some non-pharmacological indications: avoid sleep deprivation, fasting, some foods as cured meat, smoked fishes, aged cheeses, and everything containing monosodium glutamate, stay well hydrated. If you get better keep doing them, and try writing a migraine diary, taking note of the pain characteristics (side, symptoms, duration, treatment response) and try to identify migraine triggers to avoid them (every migraine patient is different, but some common triggers are alcohol, cigarete smoke, somo odors as gasoline, movement, and the foods I mentioned above).

If you are having more than 4 pain days per month, you will need prophylactic treatment. Topiramate is a good option for you if you do not have kidney stones. Other medications used are propranolol, amytriptiline, magnesium and semisodic valproate (Do not recommended for girls). For acute attacks, triptans are the first choice, again sumatriptan or zolmitriptan.

I hope this helps. If you have any doubt before your appointment, please let me know.
