Im 40 years old and have recently been diagnosed with adenomyosis (after previously thinking i had fibroids for five years) after a MRI pelvis scan. It has gotten so severe now with the bleeding and pain that I am now on the waiting list to have a hysterectomy. I started off on three iron tablets five years ago, then it went down to two and now I am on one a day.I am been taking Tranexamic acid tablets during my periods but I do not think they are effective now. I am intolerant to mefanamic tablets so take co-codomol instead which do not seem to work well as i still feel pain. I have tried a variety of oral contraception and had the mirena coil but they made it all the worse. I have been reading up and researching as much as I can about this condition and heavy and painful periods in general. It seems to me that a common factor is too much estrogen and not enough progesterone. It also seems to me that diet plays a part in having abnormal periods and have embarked on a new food plan which I started about nine days ago. I have cut out sweets, crisps, chocolate, cakes, pastries, processed and refined foods and replaced them with unrefined, organic and wholegrain food such as brown rice, oatmeal, weetabix, veg, fruit, fish, nuts and seeds, dates and at least one and a half litres of water a day and am not craving any of my 'old' foods. I don't know if this will help the condition but I am hoping so. What do you think?
