Suggest Remedy To Soften Stool And Relieve Pain During Bowel Movements

I had back surgery 1 week ago and am taking stool softeners and was taking pain meds. I have stool backed up and it is very large and painful to try to pass. I have taken laxative, but it did not help. I had a hysterectomy last year with a bladder sling and they had to do something to my rectum too. What can I do to break this up and pass it all?

Hello! Welcome to HealthcareMagic!

I understand your concern. Some advice that I can give you are:

1) Drink more water.
2) Eat more fiber, especially soluble, non-fermentable fiber.
3) Exercise more.
4) Drink coffee, especially caffeinated coffee.
5) Take senna, an herbal laxative.
6) Eat probiotic foods or take probiotic supplements. Over-the-counter or prescription laxatives.

Hope that my answer was helpful. Thank you for the query.

Take care
