Suggest Risk Factors With Chest Pain

My son is a high school football player. During practice he was tackled and hit in the chest by a forceful blow from a helmet. He was knocked out and was out for about 20 sec. The trainer thought that he must have been hit in the chin but the player who hit him said that his helmet hit him in the middle of the chest. Can a blow tho the chest cause an immediate state of unconsciousness? What are the risk associated with such an injury?

Thank you for sharing your question on HCM. In my opinion any injury causes pain tend to develop vasovegal shock which may cause temporary unconsciousness. But since your son may have head injury as no one is sure about exact location of injury, you should get done CT brain to rule out brain injury. And blunt chest trauma can cause many things like rib fracture, muscle tear, pleurisy, pulmonary contusion, pneumothorax, hemothorax, injury to heart and vessels etc. But if he is asymptomatic than just get done chest x ray to rule out these things.
