Suggest The Need Of Taking ECG In A Chain Smoker And Alcoholic

Over there he have ECG test . Without chest pain why he have to do ECG test. Thank you Hope to hear you from soon
Chronic smoker and alcoholics are known risk factors associated with coronary artery disease.
As one of the protocol to evaluate an unconscious patient is to know about the cardiac activity to rule out coronary insufficiency. Taking an ECG will give us a picture about was there any ischaemia of heart leading to cardiac dysfunction, which may have caused unconsciousness due to the decreased blood supply to the heart.
Sometimes, ischaemia may not present with chest pain, especially in diabetics and chronic alcoholics.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Ashakiran S,
