Hi. I have had numbness in my for about two years. When barefoot, it feels like I am walking on a pad and yet on hard surfaces it is painful. Lately my thighs have begun to feel numb and when I walk they feel rubbery. I am having some mild problems with balance, such as uneven places in sidewalks, it throws me off balance a little, as if my brain doesn t register that I took a step down. I have been athletic most of my life. My hands are losing dexterity, picking up objects, opening packages. Also, I have pain in my lower back that is constant and it is difficult to stand straight if I have had to lean over which I must do at work. My doctor said I have neuropathy but there were no tests given and he prescribed Gabapentin. Are there tests for this that do no involve seeing a neurologist as I would have to travel about two hours away.
