Hi Doctor, My Uncle of age approx 55yrs - 60 yrs has been identified as Filariasis affected 3 days ago. His leg was swollen and he had bubbles which were later cleared. He is currently under medication, can u pls let us know if this disease is curable? we have got biopsys done for him and waiting for the reports as Dr s are suspecting taht his Lungs, Liver may have been affected. Kindly help us know if this is curable and how long will it usually take to get back to normal. Thanks
Filariasis is a type of parasitic disease caused by type of roundworm, these spread usually by mosquitoes. This is definitely curable, if that is specific diagnosis. I say this because this disease is exceedingly rare. Typically, this disease is treated using what is referred to as anti-helminthic drugs. Namely, Albendazole combined with Ivermectin. This is the typical combination of medications used for treatment and is highly effective as a cure.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
