Suggest Treatment For GERD

I have GERD.
I am have a severe "epispode" following a New Year's Eve dinner party.
Have taken pantoprazole sodium PS 40mg, 3 yesterday and 2 today.
Still can't keep down any food. Even water causes pain.
I also took a gravol suppository yesterday and although it settled my stomach, this morning after taken PS I ate 1 teaspoon of yogurt and boom throbbing chest pain and acid in my mouth withing 20 minutes.
Any suggestions of what I can do next?

Hi,
I have read your question and I understand your concern.
As you have stated above, this is a severe and unusual episode of GERD.
Pantoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor, and it takes time to give the desired result. First it decreases the amount of acid produced in your stomach and then it gives your stomach time to heal itself.
Judging from the severity of pain you described and the irritation produced by food and water, I would highly recommend you to do a fibrogastroscopy. It seems more like that you have a hiatal hernia or a gastric ulcer. A GI specialist can guide you through the best treatment in either case.
You may also need to take antibiotics in case of a gastric ulcer, and you need your doctor's prescription for that. Also check your stool for any change in color, the specialist will ask you about that.
For the moment, keep away from chocolate, alcohol and smoke. Also avoid food rich in proteins, since proteins induce the production of gastric acid.
I hope I have answered your question.
Wish you good health!
