Suggest Treatment For Klebsiella Pneumoniae In An Infant
Hi My 6 months old baby is infected with Klebsiella pneumoniae when diagnosed for stool culture. Doctor asked me to stop breast feeding and give lactose free milk. He is suffering from severe cold and cough. Is this a higher risk infection ? Why should nt i feed him? I am really depressed seeing him.
Hi Klepsiella organisms are very resistant to multiple antibiotics and may be very demanding to treat at times. It is a lactose fermenting bacterium and may further make the child's condition worse when the child is on lactose containing milk. However, it is a matter of evaluating the risk and the benefits.Stopping the child from taking breast milk might be a very hard way to go about the management given the age of the child. It is an organism that is known to respond well on third generation cephalosporins, carbapenems and aminoglycoside.I will rather advise you do a sensitivity test and get the best molecule to treat it.With that, even with breastfeeding, the response will still be good even if it takes longer.I will advise you share this with his treating Doctor to decide. Hope my answer will help you Wish you baby a speedy recovery
